What to know about Organic Skin Care
Hi, everyone 😊
Welcome to our very first blog post on Plantsacademy.com
We are going to be discussing very interesting topics on herbal life and natural cosmetics production.
WHO KNOWS? we could drop free recipes once a while for our beloved commenters on this blog 🥰
TODAY, let’s look at these two terms;
“Organic and Natural” 😊
As a consumer, are you really using an organic skin care or hair care product?
As a formulator, are you really producing organic skin care or hair care products?
What does the term ORGANIC really mean?
Are other products made from plant based ingredients not safe just because they are not organic?
These sort of questions have caused disagreements among formulators and consumers alike, so much so that, the term ORGANIC has become bastardized because everyone wants to be associated with it for fear of non acceptance.
Well, today on our blog, let us look at these two terms and their true meaning.
Your comments or questions are very much welcome.😊
SO WHAT DOES THE TERM ORGANIC MEAN?
According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Organic Program; THE TERM ORGANIC is “a labeling term that indicates that the food or other agricultural product has been produced through approved methods. These methods integrate cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity. Synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, irradiation, and genetic engineering may not be used.”
Simply put, any agricultural product (PLANT), whether herb or food to be consumed or used in the formulation of health, hair or skin products that was planted, cultivated, harvested, and stored without having any outside non-natural interference is known as ORGANIC!
And skin care products made such plants are rightly called Organic Skin Care Products.
As way of emphasis; Organic refers to what is natural and has not been tampered with any form of chemicals, in this context let’s refer to Organic Ingredients.
That means Organic Ingredients are those Ingredients that were originally planted, harvested, processed and stored without :
1) Fertilizer
2) Pesticides
3) Preservatives
5) Artificially processed in the lab.
It is just like the aloe Vera at planted at your backyard or in a pot sitting somewhere in your house, without adding any fertilizer or making it come in contact with any of the artificial listed processes above.
If you decide to use that lovely aloe Vera of yours to make a cosmetic product, YOU CAN RIGHTLY CALL YOUR PRODUCT “ORGANIC”
You just made yourself an Organic Skin Care Product.
HOWEVER
IF you are not sure if the other ingredients you are using in addition to that your aloe Vera was grown and processed organically, YOU MAY NOT CALL, YOUR FINISHED PRODUCT “ORGANIC”
The right name for such product should be either of these three;
1) Natural
2) Plant based.
3) Botanically generated.
Organic ingredients requires a lot more time, money and effort to grow the organic plant and herbs that becomes an ingredient, while sticking to FDA guidelines.
Hence, the ingredients tend to be COSTLIER than other natural ingredients.
This brings us to the question;
” WHAT ARE NATURAL PRODUCTS OR INGREDIENTS”
Simply put, every product made from ingredients derived from nature are ALL NATURAL.
So, in essence, an organic product or ingredient can also be referred to as a natural product or ingredient. 😁
SO you see? Your ingredients or product does not have to be organic to be healthy, so long as they are derived from nature.
Still confused? Think about the millions of fruits and vegetables we buy from the market, grown using fertilizers by farmers, yet we still eat them.
If it’s safe for your mouth, it’s definitely safe for your skin.😊
