Charlotte Brontë (1816-1855) was born on December 30, 1816 into a family of five children and died on February 20, 1855. She was raised on a farm in Haworth, England, where she lived until the age of thirty-two. Charlotte Brontë's literary works include the novels Jane Eyre, Shirley, Villette, and Angria: A Romance of the Eighteenth Century. Charlotte Brontë's biographies include Moore, Gaskell, and, most important, Feaver. Her novels have been filmed on two occasions: The Innocents in 1901, and Jane Eyre in 1906. In their search to understand Branwell's death, the Brontës determined that he was bipolar, eventually committing himself into a private asylum on December 5, 1848. The death of their brother and the tragedy of their search for sanity left the family deeply affected.
The result of this tragedy was the need for the Brontës to remain closely attached to one another. Charlotte Brontë came to appreciate the power of the family ties. She began to write a number of poems during her life and created
